Our Story

ACW Analytics was started by a team of researchers at the University of Connecticut. We apply deep expertise in earth and data sciences to predict the impacts of severe weather and climate events. We are applying our techniques on a variety of use cases including Critical Infrastructure Resilience, Post-Disaster Response, Financial Risk Management, and Insurance.

Vijay Jayachandran

CEO & Co-Founder

Vijay is a seasoned product development executive with a broad and deep understanding of the B2B2C infrastructure business. He has over two decades of prior experience in engineering, operations, marketing and strategy at United Technologies Corporation (UTC) / Otis Elevator Company.

Vijay likes to sit at the intersection of infrastructure assets that power humanity, and digital technologies that can take them to the next level of performance. He holds several degrees, including a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Delaware and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University.

Vijay's favorite beer is Ruffled Feathers from Stony Creek.

Peter Watson

CTO & Co-Founder

Peter is a data scientist who is passionate about using machine learning and other techniques to describe and model the impacts of weather on the infrastructure. He believes data-driven analysis of past natural disasters will help create a more resilient future, even with increasing uncertainty and change.

Peter holds a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of Connecticut.

Peter's favorite beer is Campfire Amplified from Dogfish Head.

Manos Anagnostou

Founder & Advisory Board Chair

Manos is the Eversource Energy Endowed Chair in Environmental Engineering at University of Connecticut. He is the Director of the Eversource Energy Center and one of the Research Directors at the Connecticut Institute for Resilience and Climate Adaptation.

Manos' research efforts focus on remote sensing of water cycle and integrating earth observations with models for improving water cycle predictability at global scale. He is exploring severe weather events and leveraging advanced technologies to predict the impact on communities and the natural and built environment (roadways, buildings, power grids and water infrastructure).

Manos' favorite beer is Sip of Sunshine from Lawson's Finest Liquids.

Dave Wanik

Data Science Adviser

Dave is an analytics leader and self-described data geek who brings 10 years of experience from prior roles in the utility, manufacturing and insurance industries. His technical expertise and research interests are in the areas of natural hazards, data science and geospatial data processing.

Dave holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Connecticut.

Dave's favorite beer is Benji from Tribus Beer.

Diego Cerrai

Technical Adviser & Co-Founder

Diego is an expert in the prediction of weather-related power outages using machine learning and statistical models. He is the Manager of the Eversource Energy Center and Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at University of Connecticut.

Diego has degrees in Environmental Engineering from the University of Connecticut, Physics of the Earth System from the University of Bologna (Italy), and Physics from the University of Pisa (Italy).

Diego does not drink beer and much prefers Chianti from Tuscany, his home region.
